SYMPTOMS
When you try to configure an Internet connection, you may receive the following error message :
Critical Process Failure
A critical Media Center process has unexpectedly failed. If problems persist, please restart your machine and try again, or contact technical support. Code: 3
CAUSE
These problems may occur in the following scenario:
1. Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is reinstalled or updated in such a way that certain .NET Framework files are retrograded.
2. Update Rollup 2 is installed. In this scenario, the problem occurs because the wrong version of the Mscoree.dll file is installed on the computer. Update Rollup 2 requires Mscoree.dll version 1.1.4322.2032 or a later version.
Note The Mscoree.dll file is installed in the following folder: C:\Windows\System32
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1, and then reinstall Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005:
1. Install the .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 by downloading the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Download Center Web site:

2. Reinstall Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Download Center Web site:
